Archos 605 WiFi Portable Media Player (80GB) Review
I bought the Archos 605 Wi-Fi Portable Media Player (80GB) to replace a Creative Zen Vision: M 30 GB MP3 and Video Player (Black), which had been stolen. I loved my Zen but I wanted to see what new material came in the time since I bought it. This led me to get the Archos 605 80GB but mainly bonds due to television option. I never liked watching movies or TV shows (or even music videos) on my PC monitor, because you can relax and enjoy something passive while I'm on my computer. I have not even used the video capabilities much because the screen was too small Zen. The Archos 605, by cons, can be connected to a TV (with DVR Station and other accessories – I bought the DVR station), which allows me to watch TV shows and movies downloaded from the comfort – and even better with the other (difficult crowd around a computer desk to watch a movie), and would be able to see things on the way to your screen larger.
WiFi, Web browser plug-in and a PDF reader also helped sell me the Archos 605. Especially eager to read PDF eBooks.
Thus, when I ordered the Archos 605, I thought as an MP3 "with benefits."
When the Archos 605 arrived, I heard that your screen is quite large enough to comfortably Watch Video. Shortly after I got it, I saw two seasons of Weeds in it. It's fantastic! I bring a TV in the kitchen for a snack, etc. When I am alone at home, I am still able to rely on the built-in speaker – The TV did not need the sound quality fantastic, I just need to be able hear what they say. It is very cool, I'm hooked. 
As I said, I bought the DVR station with it. I wondered how a video file from the Archos would hold up enlarged on a television screen, but do not worry – the quality image is good (we have a 32 "series). I recorded some things from our TiVo in the Archos, and the image quality is good in that too. Since we have a TiVo, I have not used the Archos (with downloading TV shows and schedule recordings) So I can not say how it is easy to use, but certainly not easy to manually record, and I was pleased to see that I could tell you how long to save.
As an MP3 player, is not as good as the Zen, simply because it is not primarily MP3.
One way of Zen (MP3 players, and probably most others) is better than the MP3 player Archos is that if the power of the Archos 605 while you play music does not start automatically when you left when you turn back. Instead of starting the main screen, you must typing "resume" icon, if nothing happens. In this way, it is less "Plug and Go" that my Zen was, sometimes, if only I will be driving for a few minutes (like a gas station Store Go), beginning not bother me at all. In addition, how to lock the Stuff takes a few seconds longer than the Zen did. With the Zen, just down the switch in the locked position. With the Archos, which hold TV button until the lock icon appears on the screen.
If you play a playlist when you turn on the device and then click "resume" after cooking too, it seems to resume play – that in fact, play the song that was but since the album plays in place of the reproduction list, so that the next song after the next song on the album, not the next track in the playlist. Perhaps it can not be resolved in an updated firmware (or was perhaps – have not updated my firmware a few weeks).
Finally, changing the Play Mode (normal, shuffle, repeat one, repeat all), takes a lot more sail around what he did on the Zen. In fact, there should be the number of clicks.
Sound-wise, the Archos is good as the Zen was, and its drawbacks as an MP3 player are not so expensive that I was thinking of buying a separate MP3 player. The Archos does pretty well.
The PDF reader, however, proved disappointing. First, it takes several (loooong) seconds to go to the next page. Secondly, there is no way to mark where you are if you can go here where you left off. I could only remember what page was the civil service and go to the page to return, but go to page uses a cursor, which is not as fast as if they had let me write a page number, and takes a long time to load then this freaking page. Ugh. So this has certainly not replaced my Palm Tungsten for e-reading.
I did not use the Web browser or wireless. It seemed pretty slow the time I, and no touch "of voice portal content by when you press a link, which often do not know if tap water were registered or not because the screen remains the same while the Archos (slooooowly) downloads the data to the next screen. It is frustrating. The website was not as frustrating as the content of the portal, but I just have not had much need to use it.
Another disadvantage is that there is no case for the unit that protects while allowing you direct, immediate access to it, how whose skin I had for my Zen did. Instead, it comes with a padded envelope as if you should move the camera completely off voltage if you want to use. (To be fair, it is much better than the cloth bag that comes with the Zen.) Leather options are limited and all I saw need to reopen the record to see the screen or skip to navigation. The Archos has not even left with the closed case, which is very useful if you listen to audio and want to clear it quickly.
I do not know how many hours I'm out of my battery. I not listened to music for 10 hours on a recent road trip without giving me, but I still see everything that could go out. Also I seen a couple of hours of video just juice – and yet I ended up dropping into the DVR station (that charges) before they are exhausted, so I can say is that the battery lasts long enough for my needs.
Despite warnings that I listed above, I love my Archos 605. I like being able to make television shows and movies everywhere. I love that I can finally see the concert smuggling and other things that I downloaded on the screen "large." Easy to use. The DVR station is easy to use. The two work together seamlessly. The Archos has a ton of things. play my music. I can surf the web if I need it.
